Non-Angling Adventures

Horseback rides, scenic hikes, wildlife viewing, and the unhurried pace of Montana — for the guest who prefers land over water.

Beyond the River

Montana on Your Terms

Not every day at the lodge needs to be spent on the water. Our location at the base of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and along the edge of Montana's ranch country provides access to some of the best outdoor activities in the American West.

Whether you're a non-angling partner joining a fishing trip, an angler looking for a change of pace, or a group that wants to mix activities throughout the week — we have options that complement the lodge experience without competing with it.

All non-angling activities can be arranged through the lodge. Some are available on-property, others involve short drives to nearby locations. Our staff handles the logistics so you can focus on enjoying the day.

Wild Country, Wide Open

Horseback Riding

Guided trail rides through ranch country and along the East Rosebud Creek corridor. Half-day and full-day options available. Rides can be combined with a half-day of fishing for the best of both worlds. $200 per person add-on.

Wilderness Rides

Extended horseback trips into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness for guests who want a deeper backcountry experience. Ride through alpine meadows, along mountain ridges, and into country that few visitors ever see.

Whitewater Rafting

Guided whitewater trips on the Stillwater River and other area rivers. Class II-III rapids through scenic canyon corridors. A thrilling complement to the quieter pace of lodge life. Best during June and early July when flows are strongest.
Scenic & Relaxation

At Your Own Pace

Beartooth Pass Scenic Tour

Drive one of the most stunning mountain highways in America. The Beartooth All-American Road climbs to nearly 11,000 feet with panoramic views of alpine peaks, glacial lakes, and wildflower meadows. A full-day or half-day excursion with stops at scenic overlooks.

Hiking & Wildlife Viewing

Access to dozens of trailheads in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and Custer Gallatin National Forest. From easy creek-side walks to ambitious alpine hikes. Wildlife viewing opportunities include elk, deer, moose, eagles, and occasionally bear.

UTV & ATV Rides

Explore backcountry roads and ranch trails by UTV. Cover more ground while still getting off the pavement and into the Montana landscape. A great option for guests who want outdoor adventure without the physical demands of hiking or riding.
Town & Wellness

Red Lodge & Lodge Life

Red Lodge Shopping & Dining

The charming mountain town of Red Lodge is a short drive from the lodge. Browse local galleries, shops, and boutiques. Enjoy lunch at one of the town's restaurants or pick up souvenirs and Montana-made goods.

Lodge Amenities

Sometimes the best day is no agenda at all. Enjoy the lodge's common spaces, read on the porch overlooking the creek, explore the property on foot, or simply settle into the pace of a Montana afternoon. The lodge is yours to enjoy.
"I'm not a fisher, but my husband is. I was worried I'd be bored — instead I spent one day on horseback along the creek, another driving the Beartooth Highway, and the third just reading on the porch with a glass of wine. It was the best vacation I've had in years."
