A Legendary Tailwater, Steps From Your Door

Bighorn River Fly Fishing Lodge is one of the three lodges of Montana Fly Fishing Lodge. It sits near Fort Smith, on the banks of the Bighorn River — a tailwater famous for its consistent flows, dense insect hatches, and some of the highest trout-per-mile counts in the country.

It is a working riverfront lodge: guides who fish the Bighorn spend their days scouting it, from the spring hatches through fall streamer season, so when conditions shift or fish move, they are already there. That familiarity with the water is what a stay here is built on.

The belief behind it is simple: great days on the water start with great people and great service. Anyone can book a guide. What makes a stay here different is the experience itself, measured less by fish landed than by the stories shared in the boat, the anticipation of the next cast, and the friendships built along the way.

Three individually named rooms on the banks of the Bighorn River, each with double queen beds and its own private full bathroom.

The Guest Rooms

Landing, Eagle, and Osprey: three individually named rooms inside the lodge’s Amish-built log construction, each with double queen beds and its own private full bathroom. Landing sits on the lodge’s lower level with a view of the property. Eagle and Osprey share the upper level, each looking out over the river below, a quiet way to end a day on the water.

Dining

All meals, and beverages, are chef-prepared and included as part of your all-inclusive stay. A hot breakfast starts the morning, lunch is served riverside between sessions on the water, and a four-course dinner is plated and served each evening around the lodge’s community table. It’s the kind of dining where the day’s stories get told.

Lodge Grounds

Inside, a great room with a stone fireplace and an indoor dining room give guests a place to gather once the day’s fishing is done. Outside, a full wrap-around deck and a large fire pit look out over the property, with walking paths along the river’s edge for an evening stroll. A private boat launch sits directly on the Bighorn River, steps from the lodge, ready for the next morning’s float.
