Private & Technical Spring Creeks

Sight-fishing on private spring creek water — our own 4.5 miles plus legendary Paradise Valley access: DePuy, Armstrong, and Nelson.

The Thinking Angler's Water

Spring Creek Fly Fishing

Spring creek fishing is a discipline unto itself. Crystal-clear water, selective trout, and hatches that demand precision — this is fly fishing distilled to its purest form. From Spring Creek Lodge, you have access to both our own private spring creek and the world-renowned Paradise Valley spring creeks, all within easy reach.

Our Private Spring Creek

Spring Creek Lodge sits on its own private spring creek — exclusive water reserved solely for our guests. Fed by underground aquifers, the creek maintains cool, consistent temperatures year-round, supporting dense insect populations and healthy trout that see almost no pressure. This is unhurried, intimate fishing: sight-casting to rising trout on water you share with no one.

The private creek offers a mix of riffles, runs, and glassy tail-outs where Brown and Rainbow Trout hold in predictable lies. It's ideal for anglers who want to refine their dry fly technique in a low-pressure environment, and it pairs perfectly with a morning or afternoon on one of the Paradise Valley creeks.

DePuy Spring Creek

Considered by many to be one of the finest spring creeks on the planet, DePuy Spring Creek offers three miles of fishable water in the heart of Paradise Valley. Limited to just 16 anglers per day, DePuy is renowned for its prolific hatches, clear water, and trout that demand technical presentations. Rainbow and Brown Trout here are well-educated — they've seen every fly in the box — which is exactly what makes hooking one so rewarding.

Armstrong Spring Creek

Armstrong Spring Creek limits access to 12 anglers per day across 1.5 miles of pristine water. The creek is a succession of beautiful riffles, runs, and tail-outs holding Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout, and Mountain Whitefish. Armstrong's intimate scale and strict rod limits make it feel like your own private water, even though it's among the most celebrated spring creeks in the world.

Nelson's Spring Creek

Nelson's is hallowed ground for dedicated dry fly anglers. With access limited to just six rods per day, it's the most exclusive of the Paradise Valley spring creeks. Fed by an underground aquifer that pumps constant, cool temperatures year-round, Nelson's produces reliable hatches and trout that reward patience, observation, and a delicate presentation. Located on the opposite side of the Yellowstone from Armstrong's and DePuy's, it offers a distinctly different character.

Why Spring Creeks From Spring Creek Lodge

Spring Creek Lodge is positioned for easy access to all three Paradise Valley spring creeks, and our guides have deep relationships with the creek managers that help secure rod reservations during peak hatch periods. Combine a morning on DePuy or Armstrong with an afternoon on our private water, or spend a full day on Nelson's — your guide builds each day around conditions, hatches, and your preferences. This concentration of world-class spring creek fishing within a short drive of the lodge is unmatched anywhere in Montana.

"I've fished spring creeks all over the world — New Zealand, England, Pennsylvania — and the Paradise Valley creeks are in a class of their own. Spending a morning on DePuy watching PMDs come off and trout rising in every lane, then walking back to the lodge for lunch on the private creek? That's a day you don't forget."
