Gateway Airports & Driving Routes

Billings (BIL)

Billings Logan International Airport — the closest major airport. Approximately 1.5 hours to the lodge via I-90 West and Highway 78 South. The easiest and most common route for guests. Rental cars available at the terminal.

Bozeman (BZN)

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport — approximately 2.5 hours to the lodge via I-90 East to Columbus, then Highway 78 South. A good option if connecting through a western hub. More flight options than Billings from many cities.

Yellowstone (YRA)

Red Lodge Airport — a small regional strip approximately 30 minutes from the lodge. Available for private and charter aircraft. Limited services. Contact us in advance if you plan to fly into Red Lodge so we can coordinate ground transportation.

Do I need a 4WD vehicle?
No. The lodge is accessible by paved and well-maintained gravel roads year-round. A standard passenger vehicle or rental car is fine. That said, if you plan to explore backcountry roads on your own, a higher-clearance vehicle is helpful.
Can you arrange airport pickup?
We can help coordinate ground transportation from Billings or Bozeman airports. Contact us when booking to discuss shuttle options and timing.
What about cell service?
Cell service in the Stillwater Valley is limited. The lodge has Wi-Fi for guests. We recommend downloading offline maps before your drive — coverage can be spotty between Columbus and the lodge.
“We flew into Billings from Boston. Stepped off the plane, found our driver, and didn’t touch a map again until we left. The lodge handled every logistic — rental car arrangements, luggage, shuttle to the water. For a first-timer flying in from the east coast, it made Montana feel close.”
